Big Scooby
1991 - 2006

On Friday 2/3/06, the Heavens opened and all the Scottie Angels spread their wings and welcomed our beloved senior rescue "Big Scooby" back home.
Big Scooby fought a brave battle against bone cancer and in the process he taught us a lot about Courage, Determination and the Power of Love. Our sweet scottie boy who loved cheeseburgers and vanilla ice cream is now free of pain and will live forever in our hearts.

We love and miss you, Big Scooby.

11/11/05: Big Scooby received a complete check up, senior K9 Profile, HW test and a fecal flotation test. Scooby is recovering from kennel cough. He also has severe dental disease - most of his teeth are rotten, his gums are bleeding and are full of pus and infection. Scooby also has a mass growing above one of his back molars.

Scooby has bilateral cataracts. He also has what looks like a mast cell tumor the size of a grape on his chin and several large fatty cysts. The largest fatty cyst is on his tummy and is the size of a baseball.

Scooby has mild arthritis in his back legs and hips.

Medications: Clindamycin for infection caused by severe dental disease. Rimadyl for pain management. Glucosamine supplements for arthritis.

11/14/05: Scooby had surgery today to remove the mass on his chin. He also had a dental (scaling, polishing and 17 extractions) to remove all the rotten teeth and the growth above his back molar. Scooby did really well today and is resting comfortably at his foster home.

11/15/05: Scooby is like a new dog! Despite the numerous extractions he is full of energy and wants to play with the other dogs at his foster home. He actually pushes the other pups out of his way until he is first in line for treats and he is not a bit shy with his demands for attention and ear scritches.

11/18/05: During the day Scooby has fun chasing the squirrels in the back yard and in the evenings enjoys sitting on the couch watching TV with his foster family. We recently found out that Big Scooby LOVES cheeseburgers! After a snack involving a tasty cheeseburger he shows his appreciation by wiping his beard on the rug several times and growling. lol

1/02/06: Scooby has been diagnosed with advanced osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in his left leg and hip. Because of his age (14+ years old) and how quickly the cancer has spread, aggressive therapy (amputation and chemotherapy) is not a realistic option for this sweet boy.

Medications: Tramadol for pain management.

1/28/06: Big Scooby continues to amaze us with his strength and determination. He still pushes the other dogs out of his way until he is front and center for anything involving food or treats. He gives kisses, plays with his toys, naps with his buddy Fritz, and is an inspiration to us all. This little scottie is one in a million.

Scooby's vet care provided by Carrollton Animal Hospital.
