Andy's left elbow was badly broken at some point
in his life and left untreated. As a result he is unable to bend his
leg and uses it as a crutch.
Andy is heartworm positive. He also has a heart murmur.
Andy has advanced dental disease. His teeth
and gums are in such horrible shape that he is only able to use the
right side of his mouth and it is very difficult for him to eat anything
except soft foods. His molars have abscessed causing drainage and infection
in both eyes. Andy has been prescribed an antibiotic and oral pain medication
and will have dental surgery on Friday, 6/24/05.
He tested positive for whipworms, hookworms, tapeworms and
has bloody diarrhea. He also has fleas and ticks.
This is a special little guy who deserves the very best
in his senior years. Despite being severely neglected and in poor health,
Andy has a sweet and loving personality and gives kisses to everyone
he meets. He sits up pretty for treats and then leans over and licks
your hand to say thank you.

8/12/05: Andy received his last heartworm
injection today and is resting comfortably at his foster home. Andy's activity
will be restricted for the next 2 weeks. Andy will go back to the vet on
September 29th for a brief exam and test to see if all the microfilaria (immature
worms) are gone. Once we have verified that microfilaria are gone we will
resume heartworm prevention. Andy will be given heartguard each month for
the next year.
